1. Using a Pop of Colour in a Natural Contemporary Modern Space
Design One's layout features three painting in two different sizes. The colours work harmoniously with the other decor in the room by picking up the grey, green and teal tones. The largest piece from artist Dana Cowie is in the center of the wall. The two Paint and Pose original illustrations by Erica Dornbusch are hung to the right of the larger work nearer to the light source. The layout is all about proportions and scale of the work. Placing the small pieces together draws the viewer's eye to both the large painting and smaller collection. In contrast, the smaller pieces would be dwarfed by the larger one if they were placed on either side. |
We chose three frames that would work with the artwork and the space shown.
A. A natural wood frame would tie into the flooring and the wood tones of the furnishings.
B. A white frame is a modern sleek look that adds a slight contrast between the light grey wall and area rug.
C. A thin silver float moulding adds a bit of sparkle and glamour to the room while not overwhelming the space.

2. Assorted Collection
Creating a dynamic layout with a collection of various shapes, sizes, and aesthetics can be difficult. Our staff has years of experience laying out art exhibitions and the ability to find the right spot in your home for each of your artworks.
Design Two features seven artworks in an eclectic styled wall. It illustrates how a varied collection can work in an interior. When laying out this design we started by creating an overall rectangular area in which the artwork would hang. Measuring the basic grid gave us the ability to play with the wall arrangements until we found one that used the space best. Considering colour scheme, shape, and placement of smaller pieces in relation to larger ones were the key to creating an attractive display.
While artworks such as the round canvas and the sculpture cannot be framed, we came up with two options to enhance the other pieces. Option A is to frame each piece with a different frame style, colours, and sizes. Framing to the artwork and not the setting. Option B shows a few of the frames in a single colour to tie the artwork together. The Art Exchange has dozens of black frame mouldings to chose from. We often use this trick to create a cohesive look in an interior. |
3. Creating A Symmetrical Design
Clear straight rows will always be an effective way to showcase artwork, whether it is in the home or at the office. Our staff is always here to achieve the perfect eye level while making sure the wall is not damaged in the process. The two examples feature small collections done by the same artist. The top engravings are by Jo Manning and feature tree bark in various forms. An acid free matting and wide black frame were used to keep the design simple yet graphic against an coloured wall. The bottom design exhibits works by photographer Paul Lambert. Again we used classic black and white framing to keep the artwork cohesive yet flexible to the space changing over time. |
