What is The Art Exchange?
The Art Exchange is a framing shop and art gallery located at 247 Wortley Rd. It is one of two locations owned by Al and Karen Stewart; the other being Westland Gallery (156 Wortley Rd). The Art Exchange specialize in archival/preservation friendly custom framing for both fine art and objects. Our staff always work closely with client to create designs that fit their individual needs and space. A collection of past projects can be viewed on the custom framing page along with belief description of the techniques and material used.
The Art Exchange acts as additional inventory for our larger exhibition space, Westland Gallery. A variety of embellished London and surrounding area artists are featured on the walls and gallery shelves. The space holds a range of sizes from 2" x 2" wood engravings to 80" x 40" painting on canvas. The inventory is continually changed with new artwork added monthly.
Can I trade in or sell artwork through The Art Exchange?

How much does framing cost at The Art Exchange?
This is one of our most frequently asked questions by first time clients. When it comes to custom framing, the price is dependent on a variety of factors including size, materials used and labour. If you bring in your artwork for a consultation, our staff will assess, measure, and design your project to provide a quote and explain the details to you. Our large selection of frames and matting materials create hundred of options at different price points.
What is the turn around time for framing?
Majority of projects take one to two weeks to time to finish, once a design has been chosen. The materials used and type of framing factor in to this. Glass and mat replaces can offend be completed quickly (2-6 days). In contrast object framing is very labour intensive and can take up to five weeks. With COVID details also coming in to play some orders time may change. Clients are always be kept in touch with these delays and our framers also offer other similar material options with quicker turn around. Clients who are looking for a rush order (less than a week) will be limited to available stock.
Can The Art Exchange duplicate or match a previous framing design?
We can offend duplicate or match previous framing design both by us and other framers. It's all dependent on the available of the materials. Some mouldings and mats are discontinued or slighted altered over the years to go with the trends. Our staff recommend bring in the piece you want duplicated so we can measure and match the colours. Projects done by The Art Exchange after 2014 are catalogued in our computer system with measurement and material numbers making it easy to reproduce.
Does The Art Exchange do repairs?
We do many repairs when it comes to custom framing. The most common are glass replacement and re-hinging artworks that have moved in the frame. Re-matting faded or non-acid free mats are also an easy switch that can renew the look of your piece and improve preservation. Repairing frames is considered on a case by case basis, depending on the amount of damage. The Art Exchange does not repair canvases or artwork on paper; we do work closely with a few conservators in London who specialize in these fields.

- All material are built and cut to fit your specific artwork or object. Prefabricated frames come only in standard sizes, making it difficult to fit most artwork into the frame.
- There is a larger selection of options and a consultant with knowledge on what materials and techniques will be best suited your artwork or object.
- We take pride in creating designs that are built to last and will protect your art and heirlooms. We use only quality materials including acid free products and wood or metal frame mouldings (no plastics).
