Framed Book Designs
The Art Exchange staff has put together three shadow box designs to show how one could display favourite books whether they be pop-ups, sketch books or collectibles.
1. Book Collection
This framing example features two early edition novels, a watercoloured illustration and a related object. The linen mat references the fabric and colours in the book covers. The earthy brown inner matting adds visual interest by drawing the eye to each separate element while keeping the look cohesive. Deep shelves are created for each book while plate displayers attached to the framing are used to hold the books in place. Turn dials could be added to the back of the frame to create easier access to the interior. The thin ornate frame ties the whole shadowbox together. The overall design show the flexibility custom framing can create when displaying collectible objects. |
2. Theatrical Tableau/Pop-Up
This design takes an antique pop-up card from the fable of Little Red Riding Hood and uses a 4" deep shadow box to frame it. The rich ox blood coloured matting adds visual spacing between the ornate gold frame and the detailed visuals of the card. Hidden beneath the matting are built up walls designed to create depth between the image and the glass so that image is not squeezed in. Using anti reflective glass would help to preserve the work from light damage and make it appear that there was no glazing used at all. We also recommend for using an art light for an artwork that has layers and depth so that it can be properly lit without fuss. The Art Exchange has a wireless rechargeable lighting option available in store. Similar looks could be created with pop books or 3D paper cut outs. This provides a great option for a kid's rooms or a book nook in your home. |
3. Sketch Book
Do you have a favourite sketch book? Why not shadowbox it and display it on your wall? This design shows an open sketch book full of ink drawings and writing. The matting around the book adds visual spacing from the frame, is built up to hold the book in place, and keeps it open to a favourite drawing. Turn dials could be added to the back to give you flexibility to switch the page showcased. |
