Grand Bend Blueprint
Finding the Beauty in Imperfections
Not every framing project comes in 100% intact. Sometimes there are wrinkles, missing corners, holes from being pinned to a wall or uneven edges. We often hide these issues by flattening the item and then matting over the problem edges or holes.
The client for this project requested that a 1949 blueprint of Grand Bend be framed with all of its imperfections showing to avoid cutting off the street names and directions. The owner also found the staple holes, folded seams, bug damage and curled edges to be unique characteristics that showed the wear and tear on the aged map. We chose a neutral cream coloured mat and paired it with a wide flat black frame. By floating the blueprint on the chosen background all the worn characteristics are shown. Through framing we have transformed this damaged map into a featured artwork on its homeowner's wall. |
