Preserving Dali's Elephant Engraving

It's not every day that we get to work on an original Dali. We were excited to update the framing on this piece. This project was fairly straight forward as we re-used the previous gold frame. As one can see by the photo some acid burn and sun damage had occurred. We changed out the existing materials to preservation matting, backing and glass. Double matting with a slightly brighter white makes a distinction between the image and the border while drawing the eye inward. We used Art Glass which acts as a clear non-glare as well as having 70% UV protections to prevent from further damage.These improvements update this Dali while keeping it safe for years to come.

More Framing Projects

Religious icon done on board with gold leaf from the 1800's. For this piece we used a traditional styled black and gold frame with some aged textures added. One thing that made this project unusual was the use of glass. Art Glass acts as protection from light and moisture. We raised the glass to give depth and prevent the glass from rubbing against the piece.

Tom Benner illustration get a pop of colour with the addition of red shadowbox walls.

Beautiful illustration done by the client's grandfather. The piece was extremely tiny (2" x 4") so added matting and a medium sized gold frame to add to the size. Floating the watercolour onto a smoke background to draw the eye inward. It's now a dramatic piece despite the artwork's size.
