Jersey Shadowbox - Christmas Surprise
The Art Exchange had the exciting task of framing Christmas present shadowbox out of a collection of sports items for University Athlete. One of the challenges was designing a cohesive layout to provide a clear narrative. Our framer, Meredith was up for the task. Hours went into designing and assembly this framing project.

Jersey Photoshop Layouts
|
1. The Art Exchange always start with a design. This is always a collaboration with our consultants and the client. Matting colours, rough layouts, price and the overall size restrictions were talked about during this design appointment.
2. Our team then created photoshop mock up with different layouts for the client to then choose from. Rough measurement were given doing this design phrase to help the client envision where the piece could go and which layout would fit their wall requirements. 3. Once a design was confirmed a grid drawing with measurement was done up. This was essential for cutting the double mat opening which was done off sight due the the size of the piece. 4. The jersey was ironed before being stitched in place to the backing by our framer, Meredith, using clear fishing line as thread. 5. Two lines were cut to slip the metals ribbon through. Nothing was cut or super glued so both processes of attachment are reversible if need be. |
6. The mat was then cut for this massive piece, 36 x 52". As part of the designing process we decided to go with a slightly larger inner mat 1/4" the red is showing instead of 1/8" or 3/16" our go to sizes. The scale of the piece made 1/4" a better size.
7. We raised the mat 1" off the jersey and metals with acid free foam core strips cut to size. Black mat walls were also added to contrast the white mat. 8. The plaque and photographs were hinged/attached to the matting. |
9. The backing was then attached to the matting. 10. Before adding the glass and frame everything was double checked. The jersey was linnet rolled and any lose threads were cut to make it presentable. 11. Al and Meredith then worked together to place the glass and frame onto the piece. Stamped into place and then papered and wired to complete. This truly was a rewarding project as communicated by the finished piece. |
